Unrivalled detail and player experience
No rugby union game has been produced for four years since Rugby 08, which was also developed by HB Studios, then under the EA Sports label. Rugby World Cup 2011 will be released on the 26th of August. It was announced on 29 March 2010 that The Rugby Forum and its members, would help HB studios gain a better understanding of what the general 'Rugby' public wanted in the new title.
For the first time in the series of rugby games developed by HB Studios, the title will have a 'Player editor'. The front cover is the Webb Ellis Cup with a blue type backround and a New Zealand stadium
It is expected the game will feature all major international squads, including the 20 nations competing in the 2011 Rugby World Cup. However, The All Blacks (New Zealand), and The Wallabies (Australia), will not be licensed in this game. HB Studios have so far confirmed exclusive licenses to the Italian, Irish, Welsh, Scottish, French, English, and South African national sides, with other major union licenses likely to be announced soon. Non-exclusive licenses have been signed with USA Eagles and Canada.
RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011 will challenge players to pick from the 20 Rugby World Cup 2011 participating countries, and attempt to lead their team through the pool phase progress to the Final and the opportunity to lift the prestigious Webb Ellis Cup.
National rivalries, venues and player personalities are perfectly captured as participants will fight for the pride of their nation in either solo play or with up to three friends in local multiplayer matches. For the first time, HB Studios will give players the chance to fight for the glory of their country online by challenging other players to one-on-one matches on Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation®Network.
"We are delighted that there will be an official game of Rugby World Cup 2011, delivering the ability to boost the tournament experience for Rugby fans whilst growing the appeal and profile of our sport across all markets. This game will capture the emotion, passion, drama and excitement of what is the biggest sporting event of the year," said IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset.
