Port Vila, Vanuatu (PressExposure) October 06, 2009 -- Carolyn Savage, 40, had no idea that a responsible infertility clinic could possibly implant her with an embryo from another couple, when she booked in for an IVF.
Carolyn from Ohio, gave birth to a healthy baby boy and instantly handed him back to the biological parents of Detroit, Paul and Shannon Morell.
In February an infertility clinic implanted the embryo belonging to the Morrells, to Carolyn. After 10 days the Savages were told that Caroline was pregnant, but with someone else's child.
The Savages had experienced great difficulty in conceiving and carrying a child, so to hear that Carolyn was finally pregnant was wonderful news, until "They delivered the worst news of our life", declared Sean Savage.
The Morrells were told about the clinic's error, one day later. The two families did not know each other. When Shannon Morell learned of the mistake she was terribly apprehensive that Carolyn would choose to abort the baby, rather than to carry it full-term. This would have ended the Morells' probability of giving their 2 year-old twin girls a sibling.
Sean and Carolyn Savage never once considered terminating the pregnancy, or even trying to fight for custody. It was a few days however, before the Morells learned the Savages would hand over the baby without hesitation.
"We didn't know who it was. We didn't know if they didn't have children, or if this was their last chance for a child". Carolyn Savage said "This was someone else's child".
"It's been a long and difficult journey and we're thrilled that our family is now complete", the Morrells states. "We will be eternally grateful for his guardian angel, Carolyn Savage and the support of the entire Savage family".
The Savages have employed attorneys, who say they are working to ensure the infertility clinic accepts full responsibility.
