Fondi, Italy (PressExposure) April 16, 2009 -- Prestigious bodies like the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the UK and the American Academy of Pediatricians in the USA, are now firmly recommending that ADHD behavior therapy should be given greater prominence in any ADHD treatment program. It should also come first rather than last and should generally replace the use of ADHD drugs which are causing concern and just do not cure ADHD.
This news comes after the White House award given to Dr. Gregory Fabiano for his work on ADHD studies at the University of Buffalo.
This work was based on over 150 studies which all showed that the ADHD behavioral therapy program was much more beneficial in the long run than just prescribing ADHD drugs whose side effects and health risks have long caused great concern among the medical community and parents.
In other areas of treatment of mental illness and disorders, behavior therapy or cognitive behavior therapy(CBT) has had excellent results in the treatment of anxiety and depression disorders.
By following an ADHD behavior therapy program parents can learn how to cope with violent, aggressive and defiant children or teenagers. The ADHD drugs will alleviate some of the ADHD symptoms but they will never teach children how to behave or learn self-control.
