Aldingbourne, United Kingdom (PressExposure) September 10, 2013 -- ANS Group Europe, leading designers of indoor and outdoor living walls, will create living walls for the first building in Newcastle's Science Central, the new urban quarter set to become a key element of the city's scientific growth.
Science Central is being designed to include both cutting-edge architecture and the scientific expertise Newcastle University has become renowned for. ANS Group Europe will create three walls for the site, as part of a plan to prioritise sustainability and an eco-friendly sensibility. The highest wall will be 30m, and each will feature evergreen plants-particularly Hedera helix-and a minimum of six native species to encourage biodiversity.
ANS Group Europe is working with Sir Robert McAlpine to complete the walls, the UK's foremost building and civil engineering company. The walls have been commissioned to help Science Central achieve a BREEAM rating, the world's leading environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings.
"Science Central is set to be a fantastic new addition to Newcastle, and to the UK's scientific community in general," said a spokesperson for ANS Group Europe. "We're currently working on various designs, taking inspiration from scientific imagery, and are excited to contribute to such a fascinating and important project."
