Glencoe, Argyll United Kingdom (PressExposure) February 03, 2007 -- The panic telephone call came in at 6.00pm from a young couple in the Scottish Highlands. "We cannot get through to the cottage" she said. "The weather is too bad and the road is down" They did not know exactly where they were.
Within half an hour, the owner of the cottage, John Winkler had worked out their probable position in the hills, Callendar, and had found them a bed and breakfast place within ten minutes' drive.
They did not need to pay for the canceled stay in the cottage, either. The owners of Bayview in little Kentallen near Glencoe in the Scottish mountains don't bank anyone's cheque until they turn up. so in the winter, if the weather forecast looks bad they offer a guarantee. If the clients don't show, then the money is not taken.
In Glencoe they get 15 inches of rain every year - that's a fair-size tropical rainfall so guaranteeing the weather sounds risky.
But, as John Winkler says, "In the Winter people just want a few days away from it all, they huddle up together in the warm and don't care about the weather. It is bad weather in the Winter they don't like.
