Marikina, Philippines (PressExposure) April 09, 2008 -- Does the name makaveli ring a bell? Well it should because this name holds a legacy, a legacy of a man that fought for what he believes in. A man that stood as the voice of the urban community and the hip hop nation. A man famous for his stage names Tupac, 2pac, and makaveli. A man name Tupac Amaru Shakur.
Though the name makaveli is popular now as an urban clothing line, the legacy behind it is still in our hearts. Now you might think that the makaveli clothing line was founded by Tupac himself. No, the brand was founded by Afeni Shakur. It was for the purpose of keeping the legacy of her son alive through fashion.
Here is a little info about a man that made a legacy on one of the most popular urban culture around, hip hop.
Among the urban community, makaveli is known as famous film actor, a prominent film actor, and most commonly known as the most popular American rapper of the 20th century, Tupac Amaru Shakur or simply known for his stage names as 2pac and makaveli. Tupac was an American artist renowned for his rapping and hip hop music, as well as his movie roles, poetry, and his social activism. 2pac is also recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest selling rap artist.
But aside from fame and the limelight, makaveli gained notoriety for his conflicts with the law. At the time when Tupac was still incarcerated, Tupac read and studied Niccolò Machiavelli and other published works, which inspired his pseudonym "makaveli".
Shakur began serving his prison sentence at Clinton Correctional Facility on February 14, 1995. Shortly afterwards, he released his multi-platinum album âMe Against the Worldâ. Shakur is the only artist ever to have an album at number one on the Billboard 200 while serving a prison sentence. After serving eleven months of his one-and-a-half year to four-and-a-half year sentence, Shakur was released from the penitentiary, due in large part to the help and influence of Marion "Suge" Knight, CEO of Death Row Records. That is also the time when 2pac have started to use the name makaveli.
On September 7, 1996, makaveli or 2pac was shot and on September 13, 1996, at 4:03 pm, makaveli or 2pac was pronounced dead due to respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds. Tupac was among of the most respectable personality in his time. Making the impossible possible. So to preserve Shakur's legacy, his mother founded the Shakur Family Foundation (later re-named the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation or TASF) in 1997. And after seven years, his mother founded the makaveli branded clothing line, to further preserve the legacy of the greatest American rapper in the history of the music industry.
