Symantec Inc. will change the name and logo for VeriSign Seal to Norton Secured Seal with a new graphical trust mark. Under the agreement from both Boards, VeriSign and Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the VeriSign's Security Business which includes the "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) & Code Singing certificate services, & managed Public Key Interface services will now be acquired by Symantec Corp. Symantec has taken a majority stake in VeriSign Japan which is about $1.28 in cash that was announced on May 19, 2010.
But the existing customers need not to worry for Secure Site SSL Certificates they are sing about the recognition of VeriSign that may disappear. Apparently, there would be the difference of name and logo but if a user or visitor clicks on the padlock to see the details of the certificate; it will show that it's signed by VeriSign Root CA.
Symantec, the most trusted and valuable brand online, protects most of the Fortune 500, backs up more than half the world's business data, scans 30% of the world's email traffic, and protects more than 135 million customers with Norton security products. So the acquisition of VeriSign will better help the Norton users to understand the security of their personal data.
Symantec will change the new Norton Secured Seal trust mark globally, at the server level, and all the VeriSign seals will also be changed automatically at the same time. The VeriSign Products that will change with the new Symantec Product Names as follows:
