Jensen Beach, Florida (PressExposure) February 02, 2012 -- Back in 1939, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, who were the co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous four years earlier, released the book Alcoholics Anonymous, in which they first introduced the 12 steps.
They believed that the 12 steps were the foundation of a solid and successful recovery from alcohol abuse, and in following the 12 steps, each recovering alcoholic can maintain their sobriety by simply adopting its tenets.
The 12 steps are based on three core principles-foundation, action and maintenance. The first three steps set up the foundation of recovery be admitting powerlessness over alcohol, realizing that only a power greater than themselves can restore them to sanity, and making the decision to allow that greater power to help them
Steps four through nine are the action steps-making a searching and fearless moral inventory, admitting the nature of their wrongs, become willing to have God as He is understood remove characters of defect, make a list of all persons harmed during the period of alcohol abuse and then setting out to make amends for those wrongs.
The final three steps are designed to maintain a quality of sobriety by continuing a daily inventory, improving on an ongoing relationship with a higher power, and using what has been learned through the 12 steps to help other newly recovering alcoholics.
At 12 Palms Recovery Center in Jensen Beach, Florida, their professional staff of dedicated counselors and therapists are all recovering alcoholics and addicts themselves, and believe strongly in the 12-step recovery method as a vital part of an alcoholic's recovery process. Through working with other recovering alcoholics and finding a sponsor who has worked the 12 steps in their own lives, each patient can start a path toward recovery by utilizing the 12 steps right away during their time in treatment, and then carry what they've learned into their regular lives, while also passing along what they've learned to others who are in need.
While the 12 steps alone may not necessarily be the answer, in conjunction with other prescribed treatment options, each recovering alcoholic can utilize the 12 steps as a stepping stone toward a new and better life.
