Alta Data Technologies Advances MIL-STD-1553 to Ethernet ConnectivityRio Rancho, NM (PressExposure) February 01, 2012 -- Alta Data Technologies (Alta) announces the release of the PMCE-1553, an innovative new product that provides an Ethernet backplane interface to one or two dual redundant MIL-STD-1553 network busses. Based on a standard PMC card footprint, Alta has implemented an FPGA "thin-server" UDP technology to provide direct packet access to 1553 BC, mRT and BM setup memory, creating a real-time Ethernet to 1553 converter. Alta's advanced, modular software package, AltaAPI™, provides complete portability between applications written for PCI/PCI Express and Ethernet based products - the ultimate in code reuse and system flexibility. The customer may bypass Alta's software and have direct Ethernet access to 1553 memory for possible DO178 certified systems. "Our new PMCE-1553 product represents true innovation and flexibility for customer's 1553 design options. Many avionics Compact PCI (cPCI), VME or VPX systems also employ an Ethernet backplane, and now the customer has the choice to use Ethernet or PCI as their 1553 system backplane. The PMCE-1553 product is a PMC design with rear panel Pn4 or front panel Ethernet connectivity. No PCI signals are required - only Pn2 connector for 3.3V power." states Harry Wild, Vice President of Sales for Alta. Rich Wade, Alta CTO, adds "Building off our 1553 to Ethernet converter product, ENET-1553, we designed a real-time, thin-sever UDP Ethernet memory interface, and then added an auto-bridging mode for converting 1553 to UDP packets. PMCE-1553 can auto-boot BC and RT images for simple UDP socket access making it virtually OS/machine independent. DO178 compliant operating systems can use their certified Ethernet IP/UDP stack and by-pass library functions, and thus, eliminating costly code certification steps."
