The Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Contest will take place on May 28 this year. Public screening will take place on June 17. This will be a few days after the finalists of the Bangkok film festival are honored at the VIE Hotel Bangkok on June 13.

The deadline for entry at the Thailand film festival is May 7. Entrants are required to pay an early entry fee of 300 baht (about $10) before the 23rd of April 2012 while those who wish to apply after that are required to pay a regular entry fee of 450 baht ( about $15). 20% of the money collected as entry fees will go towards a good course since it will be donated to the Baan Gerda HIV foundation. AIDS is a big problem in Thailand.

All creative genres and disciplines are accepted in this Thailand film festival. The film festival is open to professional filmmakers, armature filmmakers, and student filmmakers. Filmmakers can submit sci-fi, narrative, animation, documentary, experimental, and comedy films. The 9SI signature item this year is the 'heart'. Last year's signature item was number '9'. The winners will share 1,000,000 baht, with the final winner getting 600,000 baht, the equivalent of $20,000.

The screenings will take place at Paragon Park and there will be an awards ceremony thereafter. The award ceremony will feature live music and entertainment. The judges at this year's contest include such renowned Thai filmmakers as Prince Chatri, Nonzee Nimbutr, Jareuk Kalijareuk, Chalida Uabumrungjit, Pen ek Ratanarueng, Michael Shaowanasai, and Wych Kaosyananda. Guest judges include Apichartpong Weerasethakul, a Cannes Palme d'Or winner, and George Miller, an Academy Award winner.

Acceptable formats are HD, 16mm, Mini DV, 35mm and Mobile phone - anything goes. HD, however, is recommended as this gives the best resolution during the screening. Submissions are 2 DVD copies of the film (in separate cases). The DVDs should be in PAL TV formats. The DVD regional code has to be set to 'All Regions'. The only unaccepted DVDs are DVD-RAMs. Finalist will be required to screen their films at 16:9 widescreen. There are restrictions to sexual/violent content and swearing since this Thailand short film festival is open to families.

You must own all the copyright in the film you submit, including the footage, the script, the performance, and the music. You could download the Media Release Form from the festival's website. You also need written permission (release forms) from writers, actors, and composers. You could download the release form from the festival's website.
