Animal Welfare, Student Education, Community Service and Great People - Meet United Wag

Miami, Florida (PressExposure) February 10, 2011 -- The process of finding an organization to contribute to or support can be tricky, so when individuals and communities learn how United Wag (UWAG) makes a difference in the lives of animals & kids, and the positive impact it has on communities, how effectively they partner with rescue and other animal welfare organizations - they want to get involved.

United Wag (UWAG), is a not-for-profit organization that improves the welfare of animals in Miami-Dade County through education, advocacy and coordination of community efforts. It was founded five years ago by Yvonne Grassie and has been working with the Miami-Dade school system delivering classroom Character Education/Animal Welfare lessons, Career Day presentations, and serving as a resource for the annual UWAG Youth Fair challenges.

UWAG has developed animal welfare lesson plans, grades K to 8 that are implemented as part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools Character Education curriculum and has successfully addressed 4,840 students. All lessons are available online at

The organization's Key accomplishments include innovative pilot programs including the successful Parent Academy at Southside Elementary School which has been expanded into a train-the-trainer program to enable Parent Academy staff to deliver the program lessons at schools across Miami-Dade County.

UWAG has exciting upcoming opportunities where everyone can get involved, they include building a partnership with Pre-Vet students at the University of Miami , writing an introductory program for children in the United Way Early Learning Center, developing a program proposal for Breakthrough Miami , and recruiting businesses to participate in an employment training program for special needs students. All great ways to get involved and participate in the community.

Public, private and charter schools are the target audience. To book an elementary school presentation, please contact our program director Patricia F.
