Annual Shoe Drive for the Homeless Begins on January 24

Seal Beach, CA (PressExposure) February 09, 2011 -- Each year I eagerly anticipate our Shoe Drive for the Homeless project. Since its inception over 30 years ago, we have contributed over 25,000 shoes to homeless shelters throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties. The idea came to me after hearing countless number of times from my patients that "they often had a closet full of shoes in good condition that they were no longer wearing."

Shoes of all types are welcomed-as long as they are in great shape. Many people who donate shoes express concern that their dressy shoes will not be utilized by the residents of the shelters. Actually the exact opposite is true-fashionable shoes are a valuable commodity as they are worn by residents of shelters when going on job interviews when seeking employment.

This year the shoe drive runs from January 24 to February 4. The shoes are dropped off at my office and then distributed to homeless shelters and the Salvation Army. My office address is 1920 St. Andrews Dr., Seal Beach, 90740. For more information, please call 562 799-0656, or log into and click the link to "articles."

With sincere gratitude,
