Shenzhen, China (PressExposure) March 16, 2011 -- Apple accessories shop iThrough.com (http://www.ithrough.com?utm_medium=pr&utm_campaign=SM_PR_PREX_1703211) will utilize the combined wisdom of Twitter to determine how the amount it should give to NGO service provider Grassroots over the next few months.
iThrough will donate a figure calculated by the number of Twitter retweets a message gets.
Carol Chang, the Public Relations manager of iThrough said the ecommerce site wanted to give a little back to the online world which had been so kind.
The Apple accessories site has only been online since February 2011 but the parent company has been growing since 2006 on the back of a loyal customer base.
"Charity work isn't something you'd usually associate with electronics sellers or Chinese merchants but this is something iThrough would like to change," according to Mrs Chang.
Grassroots.org is the intented recipient because of its unique role as a helper of other NGOs.
"Instead of fighting for a specific cause Grassroots provides charitable groups with the tools they need to carry on their work in the online world at no cost," said Mrs Chang. "This is vital in today's online world where making any type of impact is impossible without a digital presence."
The group 'adopts' other charities then provides them with administration, translation and website building and management services for free.
According to Carol Chang the Apple accessory seller hoped that that tweeters would retweet the message:
RT #helpithroughhelp and @ithrough will #donate 50c to grassroots.org
"iThrough hopes the message will be retweeted 500 times at the very least," said Mrs Chang. "Grassroots is able to do a lot with very little money so we want to ensure it gets the most possible."
