Astoria, New York (PressExposure) May 06, 2011 -- NYC 501(c)3 non profit Art For Progress (AFP) hosts its annual fundraiser May 13th -14th to support art education. With two nights of fashion, art and live music, there's something for everyone. Both nights will feature the winning artists from AFP's annual "Clash of the Artists" international competitions.
The festivities get started Friday evening with a Preview Reception from 6-7PM where guests can preview the artwork and meet the artists. Anthony Allport of Fine Wine Agency curated a special list of wines for the events. To be featured at the preview reception, Loring Wine Company donated a case of their 2009 Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir (600 cases). Enjoy gourmet bites while listening to a live acoustic performance from AFP artist Barry Komitor.
Interestingly, the work of all three visual artists is figurative in nature, but with very different results. From the modern realist work of 1st place winner Cameron Schmitz (Vergennes, VT), the emotionally charged work of Carmen Ghecca (Barcelona, Spain), to the imaginative abstract paintings of Pablo Damas (Fontana, CA), the show offers a wide range of perspective. Paula Collins (NYC), winner in the "Creative" category will be showcasing her accessory line as well. The exhibition will conclude on Sunday.
Tickets are $100 ($50 tax deductible) and can be purchased by visiting http://www.artforprogress.org. Preview ticket also includes comp admission for Saturday night.
Public Opening: 7PM-9:30PM with DJ Jago
