Margaretville, NY (PressExposure) September 19, 2009 -- Looking for a set of cards to share with that special someone as the season of holiday greetings - from back to school to Halloween, from Thanksgiving to Christmas and Hanukkah - begins this September? If you're a parent or educator looking to combine whimsical artwork with a positive message, the art of Kimberly Wickham, the creative mind behind children's book series Angels and Horses, may well be for you. Wickham's art, like her writing, makes use of themes unprecedented in the recent glut of often superficial children's literature - among them death, the afterlife, and even quantum physics for kids!
Raised in Europe, Wickham was trained with a classically Italian eye for beauty - a love that only increased with time. At the mere age of 20, she created and produced an enormous stained glass panorama for Margaretville, NY's, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, depicting the lives of various saints, and has since acquired degrees in Art, Art History, Teaching, and the Humanities. Such dedication and talent is evident in her artwork, which seeks to explore the greater mysteries of the universe through whimsical depictions of characters, both animal and human, in a style reminiscent of magical realism.
Much of Kimberly Wickham's work is based around the idea of the "law of attraction" - namely, that positive thinking can affect the universe on a quantum level - and the importance of helping children understand this idea. Her books in the Angels and Horses series, among them Angels and Horses, Summer of Magic Horses, and Angels, Horses and Other Worldly Lessons, follow the young Tina as she learns to overcome obstacles and challenges with the help of her beloved pet horse Dancer and her guardian angel Marguerite.
