Atlanta, GA (PressExposure) October 22, 2012 -- Mumbhai Connection, the first Hindi film to be set and shot in Atlanta, USA, is now an official selection at the prestigious 7th South Asian Film Festival in Goa, India. The screening will happen at 11 AM on Oct 26th, 2012.
Mumbhai Connection is a 90 minute narrative feature that has already played in multiple film festivals and won multiple awards. Is also a very contemporary film - it's a dark comedy about unemployment and recession and outsourcing. It is the story of Faisal, a struggling IT (Information Technology) salesman in Atlanta who finds himself working at a shady company that sells IT services to the Atlanta mafia and is run by the Mumbai mafia. When the recession hits and he finds his Atlanta mafia customers unwilling to buy, and his Mumbai mafia boss very unhappy with his results, he is forced to find entirely new services to sell. In short, he must go where no salesman has gone before. Mumbhai is a play on words - "Mumbai", the storied Indian megalopolis and home to Bollywood, and "Bhai", the Mumbai street slang for a mafia don. The movie even has an item dance number, that essential scene of any commercial Bollywood film, complete with a catchy song sung by India's famous female vocalist, Sunidhi Chauhan. Most of the dialog is in Hindi and English. The movie has English subtitles.
This movie is directed by Atlanta Nagendra who already has two major feature films under his belt. His latest release "Rambo" is on its way to being a superhit in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.
In addition to its topic being relevant to the American socio-economic issues today, Mumbhai Connection is relevant due to two other trends. One, there is an increased presence of South Asians in American film and television shows, and simultaneously there is the rising prominence of Non-Resident Indian filmmakers in the US often who often serve as a bridge between American and Indian film markets and talents. Two, the fact that Mumbhai Connection is set in Atlanta is significant because Atlanta is the biggest movie and TV production center in the US outside Hollywood. It is now home to some of the most talent cast and crew found in the US today.
Mumbhai Connection is, in summary, a result of and a celebration of these trends.
