Shrewsbury, MA (PressExposure) May 27, 2013 -- Writer and teacher, Lauren Grimley, is releasing her second novel Unveiled this Wednesday. This adult urban fantasy novel, a sequel to Unforeseen, is the second in the Alex Crocker Seer series. It is a darker tale of the battles the heroine Alex continues to fight against her enemies, her gift, and even herself. This time victory might cost her sanity, her lover, or her life. The book, being published by Malachite Quills Publishing, will be available through Amazon and other major distributors.
Growing up in central Mass., Lauren was an avid reader and frequently regaled any captive audience she could find with her stories and poems. Still, she's a bit surprised to be publishing the second fantasy book in a vampire series. "Although I had a vivid imagination, I was never a fan of fantasy while growing up. I have my middle school students to thank for turning me into a fang fan!" Though this series is geared toward a more mature audience, she has just begun working on a young adult novel that she hopes to be able to share with her students in the near future.
In the meantime, she is proof that reading widely pays off, something she has told her Southborough students since she started teaching there eleven years ago. Grimley says it was after reading a number of fantasy series, both adult and YA, that she decided to put aside the realistic fiction novel she'd been unsuccessfully trying to finish and try her hand at fantasy.
"I drew inspiration from my favorite books. J. K. Rowling gave me a love for meaningful names and fantasy in general. Stephenie Meyer and Charlaine Harris inspired me to write a female protagonist who could be both emotional and vulnerable, like Bella, as well as kick-butt and quick with a comeback, like Sookie. While J. R. Ward taught me a thing or two about the art of romance writing (something I am still pitifully working at)," Grimley says with a chuckle. "Most importantly, they are all wonderful female authors, who started out as I am, a little-known writer with story to tell. I hope to entertain my readers half as much as any of these authors. And like them, I hope to improve with each new book and series."
