Bangalore, India (PressExposure) August 20, 2009 -- In a major step towards rural empowerment, BASE, the premier educational training organization providing quality training for IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT, CET and COMEDK in Karnataka, is now set to take quality education to the doorstep of rural students in the state. BASE is launching Distance Learning and VSAT programmes to impart competitive examination training to rural students who are otherwise denied the opportunity. The Distance Learning & VSAT programmes will help students to access BASE education and study materials to face competitive examinations effectively.
Speaking about the programmes Mr. Vallish N. Herur, Director, BASE said, âRural students need to be empowered with access to the right study techniques and study material that is on par with those available at prominent towns and cities but at affordable prices. This is why BASE has launched the Distance Learning & VSAT programmes. â
The VSAT programme will allow colleges and schools in remote locations of Karnataka to access BASE CET and IIT programmes. The cost of VSAT technology is borne by BASE and the institution has to invest only on the classroom equipment like a computer, projector, web camera, mike and speakers. The students will attend live interactive classes with the best of teachers teaching from the BASE Bangalore studio. The students will have access to BASE course materials, tests and exams like their counterparts in Bangaloreâ he said.
Under the Distance Learning programme BASE will offer IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIPMT, PU+CET education for PUC / Plus-2 students, Foundation-IIT for class 9 students and NTSE for students studying in class 8. Course material, learning articles, guidance and tips, material for self tests, VSAT, opportunity to meet the teachers at Bangalore, telephonic or email support are some of the facilities provided to the students under the programmeâ he added.
The VSAT live and interactive classroom training was launched in May 2009 and is currently offering IITâJEE training at 15 centres and PU colleges across Karnataka. Additional, 30 institutions and about 1500 students are expected to benefit from this programme in the near future.. In the long-term the numbers will increase to about 100 institutions. It will help bridge the gap between students in rural areas and smaller towns and their city counterparts in larger cities in terms of access to quality education. In the future BASE will introduce other programmes like NTSE, Foundation â IIT, N-Skill etc through the module.
BASE students have performed exceptionally well in the various national and state level competitive examinations in the academic year 2009. 88 per cent of the BASE students have scored either distinction or First class in the II PUC Board examination. 71 BASE students have qualified for IIT-JEE, 44 of them figure in the top 100 in AIEEE national list including 6 in top 10 in state level. 21 BASE students feature in top 100 in CET and 5 in top 10 in the II PU Board examination.
The rural initiative of BASE will provide students the opportunity to benefit from the expertise BASE has in training students to face national level competitive examinations for nearly two decades.
Training on VSAT is being offered at present by BASE in Yelahanka, 2 centres each at Mysore and Shimoga, Udupi, Bijapur, Kolar, KGF, Belgaum, Bidar, Tumkur, Jamakhandi and Hubli.
The VSAT technology was successfully used on a pilot basis for two years in the Hubli, Mysore and Kolar centres of BASE. The innovative technology also helped Harsh D a student of BASE Hubli centre to bag a top IIT rank in the academic year 2009.

About BASE BASE started functioning in the year 1991 from its present premises in Basavanagudi in Bangalore. It was started by Dr. H.S.Nagaraja with the intention of increasing the number of students from Karnataka gaining entrance into IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) and NITs (National Institute of Technology). From a modest strength of 4 faculty members and 3 students, BASE has now grown to include 150 teaching faculty and multiple programmes for students from class 5 to II PU/Class12 in multiple centres spread over Karnataka. BASE trains students to get through the preliminary examinations of world renowned centres of learning such as the IITs of India. BASE has consistently performed since its inception both in terms of growth and an astounding share in the number of BASE students gaining entrance into the IITs and NITs. It is a proud fact that each year, the number of BASE students qualifying to the IITs is more than that of all other institutions in Karnataka put together.
