Bizerba presents the EcoMotion Applicator - Intelligent Use of Savings Potentials in Thermal Transfer Printing

Balingen, Germany (PressExposure) September 15, 2009 -- The technology manufacturer Bizerba from Balingen is now offering the new EcoMotion Applicator in combination with the labelling machines of the GLM-I series for cost-saving thermal transfer and thermal direct printing.

The EcoMotion Applicator offers a range of advantages: "The new printing unit allows even the first few millimetres of the label to be printed with variable information. With conventional technology, the label header is always printed in advance when the item is changed, due to the way the system operates. After an item change, this can then no longer be used. These misprints are avoided with the new technology", explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solutions Market at Bizerba. The new EcoMotion printing device allows label printing from the first millimetre, without the need for pre-printing as in the classic process. This new printing system also always lifts the print head away when it is not printing. This substantially reduces the wear on the thermal printing strip. In the thermal transfer process, the thermal transfer ribbon is only used when printing is carried out. This allows the user to save on materials and wearing parts - in the case of a line being operated in three shifts, the savings will be approximately 10,000 Euro per year. The procedure is thus also more environmentally friendly.

For the GLM-I, this means that if the printing area on a 70 millimetre-long label is itself only 40 millimetres long, then the print head lifts over the remaining 30 millimetres and correspondingly less thermal transfer ribbon is required. With a throughput performance of 70 packs per minute, the user can thereby save several thousand Euros each year. "Before, there was constant contact between the thermal strip and the counterpressure roll. The temporary lack of contact substantially increases the useful life of the thermal strip in direct thermal printing", adds Conzelmann. The printing speed reaches up to 180 millimetres per second.

The EcoMotion Applicator can be used in all GLM-I blowing and stamping applications from Bizerba. It can be retrofitted to all existing GLM-Is. The EcoMotion Applicator is especially well suited to Cwrap applications because in these printing is normally only carried out at the top and the bottom, and the rest is usually already pre-printed.
