Black Mountain Shines As Johan Edfors Carves His Way to an Asian Tour Victory

Hua Hin, Thailand (PressExposure) June 22, 2009 -- In what can be described as a dominant performance, Johan Edfors has made a name for himself in Asia with his start-to-finish victory at the Black Mountain Masters 2009.

Edfors, known for his big hitting off the tee, made a four under par 68 in the final round to take the title by two shots from Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng.

Making his first win since 2006, Edfors was in control for most of the contest but did make the result closer with some late errant shots.

"I guess I made it too exciting. I wasn't planning on doing that," smiled Edfors. "I made a couple of poor shots and bad decisions and then had to really fight for it at the end."

Edfors was in control until a wild drive that landed behind a tree. This led to a double bogey on the 15th and brought him into a tie for the lead. Bouyed on by a cheering Swedish crowd in the coastal resort town of Hua Hin, he bounced back with a 10-foot birdie on the 16th to regain a one-shot lead and then wrapped up formalities with another birdie on the 18th from 15 feet to earn the winner's cheque of US$79,250.

"I knew that the last three holes, I could shoot low. No one had made a charge except for Prayad who played a fantastic round. I knew I had it in my hands and knew that I needed to perform in the last few holes," said Edfors.

"This is one of the nicest wins of my career as I've not had so many Swedes supporting me during my other wins."

In fact, Hua Hin seems to be increasing in popularity with the Scandinavian set. With its white sandy beaches, perfect weather conditions and now a world class golf course only a few minutes from town, it can be understood why the Swedes are coming in their droves.
