Beverly Hills, Ca. (PressExposure) April 30, 2009 -- Michael Torchia, Health Expert and President of the Holistic Health Foundation issues warning for people to avoid commercial gyms during pending Swine Flu epidemic.
Torchia says "most commercial gyms are potential hot houses for the Swine Flu Virus. For years gyms have been known to be a breeding ground for various strains of viruses and many other infectious disease causing germs. Most gym patrons are not fully aware of the dangers of gym germs. These germs live on gym equipment and are not easily killed off".
Torchia observed how the Southwestern U.S. metro areas represent a danger zone for the Swine Flu due to the large cross-border traffic and visitors traveling both ways between Mexico and the U.S. border states.
The Swine Flu is susceptible to spread from infected gym patrons and/or cleaning staff who may have been exposed to infected friends and family outside the gym. The flu infection can then spread by the types of activities usually associated with gym operations: infected patrons and staff folding workout towels, refilling of tissues, razors, ear swabs, mouth wash and even wiping down the exercise equipment with infected towels.
Currently, the Mexican government is trying to stem the spread of a deadly strain of Swine Flu by urging people to stay home if they have any symptoms of the virus believed to have killed more than 100 people. Torchia urges gym patrons to take their workouts to the outdoors and purchase basic exercise equipment for their home. The change will be good for them and most importantly, could save their life!
