Sofa retailer first in UK to let customers place a virtual sofa in their own room online before they buy
CSL, the sofa specialist, has launched an industry-first online application which lets people view any of its 12,000 sofa items in their own room before they buy.
The company's In Your Room application is available for free on its newly re-launched website and as an iPhone app.
On the CSL website, consumers can upload an image of their living room and see how different sofas will look in their home. The technology enables them to position each sofa as it would sit within their room so they can be sure the size, colour and style is right for them.
The CSL iPhone app goes a step further by using augmented reality to allow customer to select a sofa and manipulate it on screen in real time whilst the phone is in camera mode, helping people to create a realistic image of what the product will look like in their room.
The In Your Room application also enables people to share their room creations online via Facebook, Twitter and by email.
Jason Tyldesley, managing director of CSL, said: "We're taking sofa retailing to another level with this new technology. The application has been in development for months and is part of a major drive to put the customer's needs at the heart of our business.
"Sofas always look fantastic in show rooms, which have lots of open space and neutral backdrops. But it's sometimes difficult for people to visualise how they would look in their own home and sit alongside their existing furniture.
"Our new website and In Your Room application compliments our in-store offer so that customers are able to make an informed choice about the best sofa for them from the comfort of their home."
The In Your Room service further builds on CSL's 'right for you' commitment, which involves a series of initiatives to ensure that customers get the sofa that's perfect for them.
CSL is currently the only major sofa retailer to offer a 'love it or exchange it' guarantee, which means that if it delivers a new sofa and a customer decides that it is not right for their room, they can return it for the cost of delivery only.
The company also offers a lifetime structural guarantee covering the frame and spring system on every sofa and chair it sells. And the company's sales team provides expert advice in-store to make sure people buy the best sofa for them through its customer questionnaire and Inspiration Stations, which provide free interior advice.
The launch of the In Your Room application is being supported by a £1.5m marketing campaign during December and January, involving heavyweight TV advertising, online activity, social media promotions and PR.
Anyone that creates an In Your Room image and uploads it to Facebook by the end of January can enter a series of competitions to win a sofa worth up to £1,650. Twitter competitions are also running online with the hashtag #inyourroom.
