Cancun Real Estate to Benefit from US Consular Agency

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico (PressExposure) December 15, 2010 -- Recently good news was announced for Cancun real estate buyers, with the opening of a consulate in Cancun.

In early November, accompanied by Gregory Segas, U.S. consul in Yucatan Peninsula, Felix Gonzalez, the governor of this Mexican State (Quintana Roo) said the opening of the consulate is a sign of confidence of the U.S. Government for the destination

The newly opened office, which will expand considerably on the services already available from the local office, will also the nearby Playa del Carmen real estate area. Living in Mexico will be more convenient for Americans in both locations, meaning that they will have more expanded services close at hand.

"All this will undoubtedly pay and helps U.S. citizens who are in our state, having the backing, support and the permanent defence of this authority to represent them in Quintana Roo" said the Gonzalez, "an area which is secure and tranquil where everyone can walk safely."

Likewise, Gonzalez said that American visitors and expats feel confident to come to the destinations of the state, and feel the close ties between the state and the American people.

The governor said that the opening of the office was proof that Cancun and the Riviera Maya are still the preference for American tourists, a claim backed by official statistics. The expat population in Cancun is also one of the largest.

In addition to being the largest destination for American tourists, and one of the most significant expat populations in Mexico, Cancun has also been growing in taking on an international role. This has been taking place both in terms of the significant business and conference tourism taking place, most recently demonstrated in the climate change summit.

Another area in which this growth has been taking place is the international role of Cancun's air port. With the recent expansion of the airport, it has become Mexico's second busiest airport, with the potential to become the busiest, soon. The airport has also been developing as a travel hub, offering connections from the U.S. and Mexico to South America and other parts of the world.

Cancun is currently the second largest city on the Yucatan Peninsula, and is expected to be the largest within 15 years, also growing in significance in business.

The opening of the new consular agency is yet another sign of Cancun's growing role in this part of the world, which will undoubtedly bring benefits to both countries involved, as well as U.S. citizens residing in the area.
