Canon EOS Festival of Photography Returns With A Wave Of Inspiring Events And Competitions

Sydney, Nsw Australia (PressExposure) May 08, 2011 -- Canon Australia today announced the opening of the second Canon EOS Festival of Photography, bringing together four prestigious Canon-sponsored exhibitions in Sydney and Brisbane.

The Festival runs for three months from 5 May to 27 July 2011 and includes: Head On Photo Festival; Canon AIPP Australian Professional Photography Awards (APPAs); World Press Photo (WPP); and, The Sydney Morning Herald Photos - 1440: A Day, a Minute, a Moment exhibition.

Canon continues to engage and inspire enthusiastic photographers by bringing together these four events, which showcase world-class photography. The public has the opportunity to get involved and view images from local and internationally renowned photographers. Ranging from award-winning portrait photography to breathtaking photojournalism, there is something for everyone.

"The Canon EOS Festival of Photography is founded on our continued support of the photographic industry through showcasing the highest level of photographic excellence," said Chris Macleod, Brand Manager - EOS, Canon Australia.

"As the leading DSLR camera brand in Australia, Canon EOS aims to inspire photographers of all levels to explore the creative possibilities that photography offers.

"Canon's research shows that Australians are increasingly communicating through images with people taking more photos than ever before*. We recognise a growing passion for creative photography in this country and we aim to encourage and support this by bringing inspirational and award-winning work to the broader public," said Macleod.

Canon EOS is synonymous with creative photography, and the World of EOS having recently grown its membership to more than 50,000 demonstrates that people are inspired to challenge themselves through photographic competitions and tutorials.

Canon has also continued the online initiative of the festival, which draws together these four Canon-sponsored events under one online banner - the Canon EOS Festival of Photography website.

Australian audiences have more options to get involved, with three festival-themed competitions running concurrently through the Canon Australia Facebook page. Further to visiting the exhibitions, the public is encouraged to put their own skills to the test - with the opportunity to win great prizes. The twenty most popular entrants of each competition will be judged by a Canon jury to determine the ultimate winners. Additionally, the most popular entry as voted by the Facebook community, will win the People's Choice Award. The main prize for each competition is a Canon EOS 60D Digital SLR cameras [] plus an 18-55mm lens valued at RRP$1,749; and for the People's Choice Award winner, a Canon PowerShot G12 valued at RRP$799.
