Delhi, India (PressExposure) February 24, 2009 -- The Chinese mobile market is currently dominated by the eastern province in terms of subscriber base, but the future growth is expected to be driven by the western and central provinces, says âChina Telecom Analysis (2008-2012)â, a new research report from RNCOS.
With a share of around 49% in the total mobile subscriber base at the end of 2007, the eastern province fueled growth in the Chinese mobile market. This region has the highest mobile penetration rate in China, standing at 60.1% at the end of 2007, owing to the presence of major Chinese cities, including Shanghai and Beijing that are more advanced and tech-savvy.
Although the eastern region accounts for the largest number of mobile subscribers, western region reported the highest growth in terms of mobile subscriber base at over 22% year-on-year, taking the overall mobile penetration rate to 32.8% in the region. Sichuan dominated the region with the highest number of mobile subscribers at the end of 2007, but Shaanxi recorded the highest growth in mobile subscriber base in the same period.
The central province also registered strong growth in mobile penetration, with Shanxi at the top in terms of growth by having 14.2 Million users at the end of 2007. However, Henan represented the biggest subscriber base in the region during the same period. Thus, the central province represents a plethora of opportunities for further expansion in mobile subscriber base as none of the states has registered even 50% penetration till early 2008.
