Portable GPS devices have been available since around 2005, but back then they cost in excess of $700! These GPS devices have remained quite expensive as they are mainly 'big name brands.'
Finally the price of GPS started coming down with the advent of high-quality OEM GPS from China a couple of years ago, according to Chinavasion's Rose Li. "Even high-quality portable GPS units with huge 7inch touch screens are now selling for around the 150 dollars mark." Rose Li went on to state, "The portable GPS navigation devices being produced by Chinese manufacturers are in many cases the exact same hardware being used by big name brands, but simply without their name and software."
"This is good for people who are reselling portable GPS devices because they can not only turn a good profit, but also offer each customer the freedom to choose their own preferred software." China is a very large source of GPS so, according to Rose Li, it pays to deal with manufacturers or wholesalers who care as much about their reputation as you do yours.
