Blytheville, AR (PressExposure) July 28, 2014 -- Don Caron, a Spokane, Washington filmmaker and his brother, Dave Caron, a chef who lives and works in Kalispell, Montana have formed a new company, Chef Caron (a division of Rhotus LLC), and are announcing the release of their first product, Chef Caron Non-stick BBQ Grill Mats. The two brothers came up with the idea while collaborating on a fund-raiser in Kalispell, Montana - a promotional screening of Don Caron's new feature film, Different Drummers. They were hosting the showing in order to raise money to buy new wrestling mats for the Little Guy Wrestling Club that Dave Caron coaches in Kalispell, the Evergreen Wrestling Club.
Chef Dave Caron had been experimenting with BBQ grill mats available from other vendors and was disappointed with the marketing claims in comparison with the actual function of the mats. He noticed the mats frayed on the edges over time, and that certain foods adhered to the mats even though they were advertised as 100% nonstick. So the brothers decided to manufacture their own version of the BBQ grill mats.
Their plan was simple: invest in the manufacture of a higher quality mat that would be thicker and more durable and would feature additional layers of the non-stick coating, which would bind the edges and eliminate fraying. This also created a much slicker surface that is truly non-stick. They also decided to make their mats the largest available, a generous 13 x 17 inches. Their product tests were a success and the grill mats are now available.
Non-stick grill mats are a rectangle of fiberglass cloth coated with polytetrafluoroethylene which is referred to as PTFE. The mats are placed on the BBQ grate and they make it possible to barbecue food items that were not previously possible to grill, such as eggs, cut vegetables, bacon, hash browns, fish and other foods that would normally stick to the grill or fall through the grates. Chef Dave Caron describes the grill mats as being "the equivalent of a non-stick pan that you can roll up."
The grill mats have recently become popular as a way to keep the grates of the barbecue residue-free, and they are significantly easier to clean than the barbecue grill. In most applications they can be wiped down with soap and water. The Chef Caron Grill Mats are a standout where the ease of cleaning comes in, due to their exclusive extra heavy non-stick coating.
According to Chef Dave Caron, "We make it a point to be completely accurate in our claims about our grill mats. Other manufacturers claim to be producing industrial grade or military grade high heat mats that can be used at temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. The fact is that all grill mats are made with the same FDA approved PTFE because it is the only non-stick material approved by the FDA for use with food. The maximum temperature for using any grill mat is 500F, in compliance with FDA Regulation (EC) No.1935/2004 and FDA Regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006."
The Caron brothers have plans to release a series of indoor and outdoor cooking implements over the next year.
