Chef Caron Releases Video Series On The BBQ Grill Mat

Spokane, WA (PressExposure) August 28, 2014 -- Chef Caron is a relatively new company, formed by brothers Don and David Caron Their mission statement included the mandate to design and manufacture fresh versions of existing kitchen tools with an eye to making them high enough quality for use in professional kitchens and commercial applications, while remaining affordable to the average consumer.

Chef Dave Caron, a Kalispell, Montana native, explains. "When researching the existing grill mat products we made some rather surprising discoveries. It became apparent that there was a need for a series of educational videos about the nonstick BBQ grill mat. There is a great deal of misinformation out there, and we really wanted to set the record straight."

The new video series is in four parts and covers everything a consumer would need to know when purchasing a nonstick grill mat. This includes how to select the best grill mat; how to sort through the conflicting advertisements and performance claims seen on the shopping websites; optimal ways to purchase them; how to care for them once purchased; techniques for using the nonstick mats on the barbecue; and an explanation of how Chef Caron created a completely unique version of the grill mat which they feel is by far the highest quality available.

Caron explains claims are being made online that a new style of nonstick grill mat has been invented and manufactured that outperforms all other mats on the market by being usable at high heats up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit.

According to Caron, "That's really impossible since all the mats are made from exactly the same materials, and FDA regulations have set the top temperature for their use with food at 500 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, it's actually something of a dangerous claim to make since nonstick cookware begins to off-gas at temperatures above 500. Every experienced Chef and home cooking enthusiast knows to never use high heat on nonstick cookware. Nothing has changed there."

All nonstick cookware, which includes the BBQ grill mat, is made from a substance created by DuPont Corporation and is usually referred to by the trademark, Teflon. The chemical nomenclature for Teflon is polytetrafluoroethylene, and its rather long chemical name is often shortened to a more easily remembered term, PTFE. At low and medium temperatures (up to 500 degrees, as mentioned above) PTFE is stable and impervious to almost all other substances, including harsh chemicals. PTFE is truly remarkable; It has the lowest coefficient of friction of any known solid on the planet, which in layman's terms simply means it's the most slippery thing ever invented; In mat form, it can be cut with scissors or blades to any shape or size; and it is completely resistant to acids, alcohols, oils and water. Just be sure to use it below 500 degrees Fahrenheit. (FDA Regulations (EC) No.1935/2004 and (EC) No. 2023/2006).

Chef Caron's informative video series is available on YouTube.com and is free to the general public. "Since our objective in researching the grill mat was to design and manufacture the best that could possibly be made, we're excited to educate the public about our unique version of the product."

According to the company spokesman, even though all BBQ grill mats are made from the same materials, that is where the similarities end. Nonstick BBQ grill mats come in distinctive sizes, weights, densities and thickness. They have varying amounts of PTFE, and distinct warranties. Chef Caron experimented extensively to ascertain the ideal specifications for their custom mat. They guarantee that it is the best available, with a full money-back policy if dissatisfied in any way.
