Pasadena, CA (PressExposure) February 14, 2011 -- Children's Art Village artwork showing at The Sheldon Art Galleries
Colors of Hope is a multi-media exhibit featuring works by children from around the world who are served by the not-for-profit organization, the Children's Art Village.
The Children's Art Village is a 501(c)3 tax exempt non-profit organization registered in the State of California. Together with their partners in the United States as well as in third world countries, CAV initiates and implements art curricula in orphanages throughout the world. The Children's Art Village is a humanitarian organization and has no religious affiliations. Based in Santa Monica, California, CAV works with children in orphanages and schools to introduce art, music and dance components into the children's education and to foster self-confidence, personal growth and healing. Using art and music therapy practices, they help children work through trauma related to abandonment, poverty and slavery. CAV has worked in impoverished countries since 2005 beginning with workshops in Vietnam and then Ghana.
CAV recently added a summer program at the Sevelaya Orphanage in India in 2010. The goal of the Children's Art Village projects has heavy emphasis on sustainable art and music programs. Therefore the Children's Art Village, working with the Sevalaya, has placed a full-time music teacher at the orphanage to teach classical Indian singing to over 1,500 children at the Sevalaya School.
American artist teachers can participate, sponsor, travel, volunteer, donate and join local Indian artist teachers in a week of connection and empowerment for all involved as the Children's Art Village will be returning each year to the Sevalaya for a special week-long fall program.
The Colors of Hope exhibit will have works from CAV's programs in Ghana and India illustrating the positive influence that creating art can have on the soul. The exhibit is curated by Rebecca Gunter, Gallery Coordinator and Education Manager and is organized by the Sheldon Art Galleries. The Children's Art Village will exhibit 45 art pieces at the AT&T Gallery of Children's Art, located at the Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries in St. Louis, MO. Each year approximately 70,000 people walk through the gallery halls. "We are extremely honored and excited about this invitation!" says Mai Lai, Founder and Executive Director of the Children's Art Village.
The exhibition runs through June 11, 2011 at The Sheldon Art Galleries located at 3648 Washington Blvd., St. Louis, MO. http://www.thesheldon.org
