Church Gives One Week To Serve Community

Riverside, CA (PressExposure) July 08, 2010 -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Instead of a far away missions trip, East Hills Community Church is planning ONE SUMMER, a weeklong community mission right here in Riverside and Moreno Valley. Craig Gilbert, Pastor of East Hills in Riverside, California decided that in these economic times, a difference could be made in our own neighborhood.

During the six day mission from July 11-18, the East Hills congregation members will form teams to work in various areas of Moreno Valley and Riverside, such as local homeless shelters, Crosswinds Church in Mead Valley, Mead Valley Community Center, numerous local home repairs, and a Vacation Bible School for 180 youngsters in the area.

They will also be holding a seminar on resume building and interview tips, including free haircuts, and provide donated professional interview clothing to help those wanting to get back into the work force. Teams will also be working at local food banks bagging and delivering food, putting together food donation boxes, interacting with others and praying with adults, teens and children. Other teams will be rebuilding fences, helping with home repairs, painting, landscaping and planting a large community garden. Young children will also help alongside their mothers baking and decorating cookies at a local women’s shelter. Over 150 adults have signed up to participate.

Pastor Gilbert said that one way we can show God’s love is to care and serve others. It is very costly to fly across the world to help, and this year he thought his church could all donate a week to give back locally to those in need.
