Comic-Con - Jeremy Renner is Hawkeye says Joss Whedon on "The Avengers"

Seaside, CA (PressExposure) July 25, 2010 -- We have all heard it at Comic-Con. Joss Whedon has announced to everyone that Jeremy Renner will be playing Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo will be playing The Hulk in his upcoming The Avengers movie.

Whedon spoke to the audience: " I have had this dream all my life and it was not this good. I want to thank Kevin so much for assembling my dream team. This cast is more than I could have never dreamed of working with. I am going to blow it. I am not up to it. I need your love and your support."

This announcement was made at the Marvel Studios session, which included clips, cast and crew from "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger," due out in May and July of 2011 respectively. "The Avengers" will bring together characters from both movies, plus a few new ones, and is due out May 2012.

The other cast, as according to the cast list, sees Robert Downey Jr. potentially as Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow, Don Cheadle as War Machine, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Chris Evans as Captain America.

There was also talk at Comic-Con that Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, may be returning to the franchise because the character is now controlled by Marvel Studios. Unfortunately, Wolverine will not be a part of "Captain America" because 20th Century Fox still owns the rights for the "X-Men" franchise.
