Cosmetic Gynecology: Not Just "Cosmetic" and Not Just for Vanity

Greenwich, CT (PressExposure) June 25, 2011 -- After thirty years in practice, you would think Dr. Edward Jacobson would be slowing down a bit. After all, with offices in Greenwich, CT and London, England, the demands on his time by his cosmetic gynecology patients are enormous. But rather than reducing his work schedule, Dr. Jacobson opted for a different path and opened a brand-new office in Beverly Hills, CA.

The reasons are three fold. First, the call for cosmetic gynecological surgeries and sexual enhancement procedures is growing at a rate of up to 30% a year, over the last few years. Second, advances in technology have made vaginal rejuvenation much less painful with even better results. Third, the social acceptance for other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures, such as breast augmentation and reduction, has cleared the way for highly personal and private procedures to also become acceptable.

Dr. Jacobson says “Just a few years ago, patients who wanted this kind of surgery were afraid to talk about it, even with their doctors. Today, it is moving away from being taboo to being just another aspect of a woman’s concern about both her health and her appearance.”

The very private nature of vaginal surgeries makes it difficult for women to even find out about, much less address. For many, the term “vaginal rejuvenation” signals a merely aesthetic procedure. However, the effects of aging, child birth, trauma, and genetically inherited issues can cause significant health problems for women. Dr. Jacobson adds “There often are real medical and social issues to be resolved with these surgeries. Weak vaginal muscles can create sexual problems that are both medical and social. Enlarged labia can make intercourse uncomfortable or even painful.”

Working with accredited surgical centers, Dr. Jacobson offers labia reduction (labiaplasty), tightening of the vaginal muscles (vaginoplasty) and modifications to the tissue surrounding the clitoris (hoodectomy) as well as other options. Most procedures are done on an outpatient basis using twilight sleep, regional, and local anesthesia. The procedures take one to two hours. Mild to moderate discomfort lasts as little as a week.

He continues, “A woman’s sexual health is not a vanity. It is a necessity. Appearance and pleasure are a great part of that health. And today’s technologies, like radiosurgery, or as some call it, “no scalpel” surgery, mean I can offer my patients a healthier and more pleasant sex life.”

As one of the few cosmetic vaginal surgeons with expertise in both laser and radio frequency techniques, Dr. Jacobson’s skills are in high demand. The benefit of radiosurgery is that it uses a cool tip which does not touch the skin. Like the laser technique, it is extremely precise but there is no heat damage. The result is less swelling, little inflammation, and more rapid healing.

His practice in the US has focused on consultation and surgical procedures in the Greenwich, CT area and the recently opened office in the Los Angeles area (Beverly Hills). He only offers consultations in England. (Patients in England travel to the US for their surgeries and can take advantage of his free concierge services.)

A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Gynecologists, Dr. Jacobson has performed thousands of vaginal surgeries and sexual enhancement procedures. As an expert in his field, Dr. Edward Jacobson has been interviewed on television and radio.
