Dana Point, California (PressExposure) November 04, 2014 -- Thanksgiving is just weeks away and most anticipate a warm, wonderful holiday, surrounded by family and friends.
Not everyone gets to celebrate Thanksgiving seated at a beautifully decorated table, laden down with homemade dishes.
With half the 5th Marine Regiment deployed to the Middle East, many military families are left behind with their loved one far away and in harm's way. Those Marines remaining at Camp Pendleton must maintain readiness as our Nation's 1st Responders. They will not get leave to go home to see their families across the US.
To ease the loneliness of this time, the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group (DP5MRSG) is seeking the public's help. By sponsoring a Marine or Marines for Thanksgiving Dinner, donors are giving them a chance to be together with other Marines, Sailors, Wounded Warriors and their families in a warm, supportive atmosphere with a delicious Thanksgiving Dinner.
"It is a way for our local folks to show that our country appreciates the sacrifices they are making. Most importantly, it is a way to say 'Thank You'," says Terry Rifkin, President of the DP5MRSG.
"It is our hope that these American heroes will feel the gratitude of our Community for their sacrifices and service."
The dinner will be hosted at the new Waterman Restaurant at Dana Point Harbor by Damian Collins and the Collins Family.
A Marine, or a Marine and his family, will receive a full meal, open bar, dessert, entertainment and raffle prizes for just a $35. donation from a sponsor.
"It is a simple way to show gratitude for the many sacrifices they and their families make and to turn what could otherwise be a lonely day into a 'family affair'," added Ms.Rifkin.
