Hannover, Germany (PressExposure) September 18, 2009 -- Around 250 exhibitors are expected at Hannover-Messe for the Post-Expo from 29th September to 1st October. The 13th trade fair for the international post, express and mailing industry displays an incomparable collection of the latest generation of technology and services. As it is becoming more and more important - particularly in the logistic sector - to combine the volume measuring, weighing and scanning processes (DWS) into merchandise management, the Swiss weighing scales specialist Pesa is introducing the DWS 510, combining a static weighing and identifications system with an integrated roller conveyer and dynamic volume measuring.
"Fast collection systems are required in order to calculate shipping volumes, spatial capacity of transport vehicles and also the space required for interim storage. At the same time, the assumption that light weight goes hand in hand with small packages only very rarely works out. Furthermore, in many areas of outbound logistics the volume is one of the relevant dimensions which constitutes the transport services bill. With the DWS 510, companies can identify a barcode within 1.5 seconds and in doing so can work out the volume and weight simultaneously with just one procedure", explains Reto Gianotti, Sales & Marketing MD at Pesa. Bizerba - a subsidiary of the Balinger technology manufacturer - will exhibit the new system designed to optimise dispatch management in hall 2, stand 4051 at the Post-Expo. According to Gianotti, the forward-looking logistics system not only supports efficient, target-oriented goods movement and their storage and supply, but also makes the processes more transparent and safer by means of the parallel data provided.
According to the company, commissioning takes place within just a few minutes. Moreover, the solution is calibratable according to the guidelines of the International Organisation of Legal Metrology (OIML) and the Measuring Instruments Directive (MID). Jointly developed by Pesa, the Sick company from Reute near Freiburg and the Akl-tec company from Alsdorf, the combined volume measuring and weighing system is particularly qualified for collecting complete data from deliveries by courier, express and parcel service providers as well as in logistics centres. With a capacity of up to 500 packages per hour, it is designed especially for small and medium throughputs and delivers all relevant data for freight calculation and for the preparation of shipping documents at the press of a button.
In addition to the already approved VMS 510 volume measuring system, boasting a measuring accuracy to within a maximum tolerance of 10 millimetres is a robust, static weighing scale along with a hand-held scanner for identifying a system's code information. The maximum object size for packages that can be processed is 100 x 70 x 70 centimetres and the maximum weight is 60 kilograms. Furthermore, its unitised design means making adjustments to accommodate particular customer requests is easily possible.
