Diabetic Foot Care Centre Opens in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, India (PressExposure) April 05, 2012 -- Kanungo Institute of Diabetes Specialities, the largest Multispeciality Diabetes facility in the country has joined hands with Cuttack Diabetes Research Foundation (CDRF), Department of Health, Govt. of Odisha and World Diabetes Foundation(WDF) to create institutional empowerment for Diabetic Foot Care in which State Govt. is providing infrastructure support and adequate manpower who are trained at K.I.D.S. for better management of Diabetes foot cases.

This pilot program has been started in six districts of Odisha namely Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsignpur, Keonjhor, Sambalpur & Ganjam to create awareness on diabetes foot care, empower the manpower at District Headquarter Hospitals to address diabetes foot complications, empower Asha & Anganwadi workers to create awareness & detect the people with diabetes foot complications at village level and establish District Foot Care Center as a referral center to reduce the foot complications in these districts.

In this programme Hon'ble Member of Parliament, Bhubaneswar Sj. Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Hon'ble Member of Odisha Legislative Assembly, Khurda, Sj. Rajendra Kumar Sahoo, Dr. Nilamadhab Mishra,CDMO, Khurda, were present and encourage the socially beneficiaries actions of Dr. Alok Kanungo and his team.

Diabetes Mellitus has assumed pandemic proportions and is indeed the scourge of the modern era. At present there are 300 million diabetics worldwide and the number is expected to double over the next five years. India with its huge diabetic population holds the distinction of being dubbed the "DIABETIC CAPITAL OF THE WORLD", with 63 million Diabetics. Odisha has approximately 43 million Diabetics.
