Cardiff, United Kingdom (PressExposure) April 07, 2010 -- The Prime Minister of the UK has announced that there will be a general election for the UK on the 6th May 2010. So what does that mean for your career and more importantly for your family? We have been through one of the most difficult recessions in many a year and significant numbers of highly qualified professionals have received career knock backs as a result.
The key question therefore is whether to stay in your current role or to start looking for a new one. The talk in the pub will be about the relative merits of each particular candidate, whether we should give Gordon Brown more time or whether David Cameron would make a better Prime Minister. The simple truth is, however that you could wait forever and your career will stagnate as a result.
My personal opinion is that enough is enough. You can't put your career on hold indefinitely and I would definitely start to dip those toes into the water now to see what is out there. You really do have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
One thing that definitely does need sorting out however is your CV or resume. Over the past few months, our CV review service has been particularly busy and we have created many new CVs for people. One thing is for sure, the competition is tougher now than ever before and you must get your CV up to scratch if you are going to get interviewed.
Is it a good time then to look for another job? My view is that if the crowd turns left, you should turn right- this contrarian approach works for me as by definition, the crowd cannot all succeed. In the end it's up to you. My view very definitely is to get that resume dusted off and see what is out there. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
