Seattle, WA (PressExposure) November 11, 2009 -- Door to Door Storage Inc. (www.doortodoor.com) is joining with Operation Iraq: The Spirit of Christmas to help with efforts to collect items desired by the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The goal is to send 8,000 gift boxes. Upon learning of Operation Iraq's need for portable storage containers in which to store the collected items Door to Door, a leading national provider of portable container storage and moving, immediately donated the delivery, pickup and storage of four containers. Door to Door employees also volunteered to help load the containers with the collected items at the Northwest University collection site in Kirkland, Washington.
"This is the sixth year for Operation Iraq and is an all-volunteer, nonprofit effort," said Ruth Ann Young, Operation Iraq founder and director. "We appreciate the help of individual and business community members such as Door to Door Storage and couldn't achieve what we do without this type of involvement."
Military advisers and veterans at Operation Iraq compile a list of "most desired items" as requested by the troops. This year top items on the list include: appreciation artwork from children--to be included in each of the gift boxes, gloves, white socks, travel size toiletries, plus individual servings of snacks and leisure time materials. Lip balm, eye wash, AA batteries are only a few of the additional items on the list that are also being requested. A complete list can be found at http://www.OperationIraq.org.
"Door to Door it proud to be a part of this effort to show support for our troops," said Annette Jacobs, president and CEO of Door to Door Storage Inc. "We encourage members of our community to participate by donating to Operation Iraq."
Items must be collected by November 15. A list of donation drop-off locations can be found in the "how to donate, volunteer or contact us" section on the Operation Iraq website. Schools that would like to serve as collection sites may contact Ruth Ann Young at 425-739-9627 or Christopher Martin at 425-823-1771 to request a box.
