Sacramento, California (PressExposure) July 19, 2013 -- The Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization (SACTO) is pleased to announce that EVA Airlines, Taiwan's second-largest airline and the first Taiwanese airline to establish its own flight school, chose the Sacramento Region for its U.S. flight training academy. After an 18-month process, EVA Airlines decided to establish its own school rather than continuing to outsource pilot training. On Tuesday, March 12, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve terms of a lease at Executive Airport that will move this plan forward.
The initial lease is for a temporary flight school with a phased roll out over three years that will result in the construction of new classrooms, offices, dormitories, hangars, and the purchase of over a dozen aircraft. At full build-out, the 7.5-acre academy will train an estimated 80 to 100 commercial pilots and could potentially train pilots of other airlines. The annual budget for the facility is expected to be approximately $7-to-8 million and will ultimately employ roughly 50 instructors and staff. The first faculty members will be arriving within the next month to begin creating the curriculum for FAA approval.
Other locations outside of the region were considered, but weather, air space, and the ability to build its own facilities at Executive Airport within the City of Sacramento were positive contributing factors in favor of a Sacramento location.
Sacramento County Supervisor Jimmie Yee commented, "We are very excited about the EVA Airlines project coming to Sacramento Executive Airport. This is a $20 million project and it will have a great impact on the economy with job creation."
EVA Airlines was ranked 13 among the top 20 international airlines in the world in 2012. The airline departs from major air hubs in the U.S. and Europe with destinations throughout Asia. EVA Airline's parent company is Evergreen Group, the ownership group of the world's largest container shipping companies.
As a member of the local team led by the Sacramento County Airport System and including Sacramento County and the City of Sacramento, SACTO has and continues to play an integral role in this development effort.
