Nashville, TN (PressExposure) August 10, 2010 -- An electric scooter, from Nogas Electric Scooters in Nashville, TN , is the first vehicle charged at the Richland, LLC solar charging station in Pulaski, TN. 75 Miles south of Nashville, a shaded parking area doubles as a solar charging station for electric vehicles.
On August 4th, 2010 local, state and TVA officials converged on Richland LLC manufacturing in Pulaski TN to cut the ribbon on the state's first electric vehicle charging station. The solar parking array houses solar panels on the top and shades 12 cars underneath.
The solar power is enough to charge the vehicles with enough left over to power 4 homes - generating over 24,000 kWh per year. .
A first in the Southeast, attendees were surprised by the simplicity of its design. Parking lot arrays have grown popular out west, but are all but non-existent in the southeast. Most solar power here utilizes roof tops, which can create great problems when roofs need repair work.
Outpost Solar has plans to build 5 more in Knoxville. In Nashville, NoGas Electric will be unveiling Nashville's first j-plug charging station for electric vehicles later this month. And Oak Ridge National Lab is working on a charging station design for the Nissan Leaf, which comes out later this year.
