Family Looks Forward to Home Renovations After TAC Win

Melbourne, Australia (PressExposure) February 12, 2010 -- A 15 month legal battle for a motor bike accident victim and his young family has ended after the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in Victoria agreed to pay the labor costs for their unfinished home renovations.

Slater & Gordon motor vehicle accident lawyer Janine Gregory said Mr Zsolt Ugrai was about four months away from completing the renovations to his home in Heidelberg West when he sustained multiple injuries in a motor vehicle accident in 2008. The accident left Mr Ugrai a paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair.

She said since the accident the family had been living in a home with some exterior walls exposed and in need of rendering and with holes in the ceiling and floors.

"The incompleted renovations have served as a constant reminder about the impact of the accident and so this win has brought a great amount of relief to my client and his family," Ms Gregory said.

"The result, which was hard-fought, means that the family can now look forward to having their house finished as it was planned back in 2008."

Mr Ugrai, now aged 35, said despite the length of the legal battle he was pleased with the result.

"Before the accident I had attained an owner/builder licence so that I could complete the home renovations by myself and I had purchased all the tools and materials for the job," he said.

"Now, thankfully that work can be completed. The value of having this work done will go far beyond its monetary value - it will mean that we can look forward to a greater level of comfort in our own home and towards the future."

"It has been well worth the effort."
