Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PressExposure) August 05, 2006 -- On August 1st the initial Lagoon 420 was launched out of Les Sables dâOlonnes. The sea trail left many impressed by how well this new vessel handled under sail. The Van Peteghem-Lauriot-Prevost hull design handled very well in 20 knots of NNW breeze during the initial sea trail Thursday, August 3rd. The great handling of the Lagoon 420 provided better comfort and better sailing performance at sea.
The Lagoon 420âs steering was very smooth during the sea trail and pitching movement was almost non-existent. The lack of slamming was also very impressive. In 20 knots of true wind (TWS) and 80% of the boats full sailing potential this Lagoon reached 7 knots close hauled, and 8.5 knots as the boat testers bare away at 20 to 30 degrees further.
The latest version of the electric motors made an impression as she left the docks in silence. The electric motors had incredible torque, smooth acceleration was provided while working the throttles. The soundproofing of the genset compartment worked extremely well.
The Lagoon 420 will be unveiled at some of the 2006 Fall boat shows where the Lagoon 420 will be presented in the following exhibitions: Avant Premiere in Cannes (13-18th August), La Rochelle; Genoa, Italy; Annapolis, USA; Barcelona, Spain; and Paris.
