Colorado Springs, CO (PressExposure) January 03, 2007 -- Dr. Scot Lewey, aka the food doc, is a stomach and intestine specialist (gastroenterologist) who is personally gluten and casein sensitive. He has just released a free online video that helps explain the difference between food allergies and food intolerance or sensitivity.
Many people have an adverse reaction to foods. Some of these reactions are allergic in nature whereas others are not considered a true allergy. These other food reactions can include intolerance to milk sugar or lactose or sensitivity to protein in grains such as wheat, barley and rye (gluten) or dairy (casein). As many as 8% of the population have or have had an allergic reaction to food and 1% have celiac disease and 10% are gluten sensitive. Most people are unaware, confused or misunderstand the differences between food allergy and intolerance.
In a 10 minute video that is available for free on his website. Dr. Lewey, the food doc explores these differences using easily understood examples. You may access the video directly from his site at http://www.thefooddoc.com as well as his highly informative Food Doc blog.
