Queensland, Australia (PressExposure) May 31, 2009 -- And the 15 chosen contestants are revealed.
Series Two Premieres Wednesday, May 27 at 7.30pm AEST
FOX8âs hit reality series FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR returns for Series Two tomorrow night as a brand new search gets underway for Australiaâs most talented young footballer.
After hundreds of hopefuls turned out in force to compete in gruelling tryouts around Australia, 15 players were chosen to take part in the opportunity of a lifetime â the chance to land a prestigious Hyundai A-League contract with Melbourne Victory, alongside a one-year scholarship with Monash University â and to become Australiaâs next FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR.
Melbourne Victory FC Head Coach Ernie Merrick heads up the judging panel this year and is joined by Melbourne Victory assistant coach Aaron Healy and FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR [http://www.fox8.foxtel.com.au/Shows/football-superstar/index.htm] mentor Vitale Ferrante, who will put the contestants through their paces in search of that X factor that could prove the difference between victory and defeat for Melbourne Victory in season 2009/10.
The top 15 contestants are: New South Wales: Gilly Buckley, 20; Aaron Daly, 16; David McMurray, 19; Daniel Mitwali, 17 and Sebastian Petralito, 20. Queensland: Jack Petrie, 20; Matthew Heath, 19; Chris Kozionas, 20. Victoria: John Lazaridis, 20 and Steven Topalovic, 18. Western Australia: Kynon Melling, 18 and Trent Wood, 19. South Australia: Michael Marchi, 20 and Thomas Renzi, 19. Canberra: Luke Pilkington, 18
From this point onwards, it will be every man for himself as the players are moved into a Melbourne mansion and are judged by Merrick and the panel on their on-field performance and off-field behaviour.
Throughout the series, the boys will be put through their paces as they compete in a selection of physical and mental challenges every week and play football matches against some of Australiaâs leading football teams.
As the final 15 are pushed to their limits and weaknesses are exposed, one-by-one players will be eliminated by the judges until only three remain â and Merrick will anoint one lucky player the ultimate winner â and Australiaâs newest FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR.
Returning as host is Irish singer/songwriter Brian McFadden and joining him in the co-hosting seat this season is FOX SPORTS presenter Lee Furlong.
FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR is an 8-part reality series, produced for FOX8 [http://www.fox8.foxtel.com.au/index.htm] by North One Television Australia.
