Four-Footed Immigrants With Gypsy Origins Migrate From The Uk To America

Brandon, FL (PressExposure) April 12, 2010 -- This immigration of the gypsy horse is far less controversial than that of illegal migrant workers from Mexico, but for some equine aficionados these new additions to our nation are welcomed and appreciated transplants.

The Gypsy Vanner horse is a beautiful animal made distinctive by its markings and genuine "horsefeathers" which describe the long, luxurious hair of its mane, tail and lower legs that cover the hooves. The coloring of these horses are similar to pinto colors. Skewbald (brown and white) and piebald (black and white) are the most common shades.

Gypsy Vanners were originally bred by the Romany Gypsies to be intelligent, gentle, strong and visually pleasing. They were used for riding and to pull wagons. The exact development and genesis of this animal is somewhat of a mystery because of its European Gypsy origins. Variants of these horses are known by other names such as Tinkers and Gypsy Cobs, but over half a century of careful breeding have produced the standardized beauty known as the Gypsy Vanner which is touted as "the best of the best" among Gypsy horses.

It was very difficult for interested North American buyers to see and spend time with this wonderful breed of horse because the majority of the animals reside in the United Kingdom. They had to rely on the word of breeders and importers half-way around the world that the horses purchased were of good quality.

This is no longer a problem. 1350 Gypsy horses were transported to the US as of June, 2007 and registered with three North American horse registries. The Gypsy MVP was formed to insure that only the best representatives of the breed were standardized. But not every one would be accepted as a Gypsy MVP Horse, because they weren't all of quality stature, conformation and/or breeding stock. Gypsy MVP has established a network of high standards to protect those who wish to purchase these fine animals.

Now, far removed from its native home in the United Kingdom and under the protection and management of Elaine and Doug Kneis as well as a team of dedicated professionals, the Gypsy Vanner is thriving at the Magnolia Ranch located on the rolling plains near Houston, Texas. Sales, Breeding and Transport are some of the services they offer to enthusiasts around the world.
