Four Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog Attorneys Recognized for Excellence

Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP (www.cshlaw.com), one of the largest civil defense firms in North Carolina, announced today that John D. Martin has been recognized as 2010 Super Lawyer while Melody J. Canady and Regan Summerlin Toups have been named Rising Stars. In addition, Jason E. Toups received recognition as a 2010 Legal Elite Young Gun by Business North Carolina Magazine.

"These distinctions are well deserved by John, Melody, Regan and Jason," says Dan Hartzog, managing partner of Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog LLP.

Super Lawyers is an annual listing of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Recipients are selected from more than 17,000 lawyers from throughout the state. The Rising Star designation is given to up and coming attorneys under the age of 40.

Martin is manager of the Wilmington office and has been practicing civil defense litigation since 1985. He was selected as a Super Lawyer for his work in Personal Injury defense in Medical Malpractice cases. In addition, he is peer-rated by Martindale-Hubbell®, and has been recognized as a Best Lawyers in America in 2006, 2008 and 2009.

Canady has handled litigation matters since joining Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog in 2006. Regan Toups has been with CSH since 2000. Although her primary areas of practice have been medical malpractice defense and premises liability, she also handles construction litigation, environmental litigation, products liability and community association matters.

Jason Toups has handled Workers' Compensation matters in the Wilmington office of CSH since joining the firm in early 2007. His selection as Young Gun is the result of Business North Carolina magazine mailing ballots to every member of the State Bar living in North Carolina. Toups is one of only 43 attorneys under 40 years old to receive this recognition in 2010.

These distinctions build upon CSH's dedication to excellence. Several firm members are peer-rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and have been recognized as Best Lawyers in America.
