Organized every year in the month of September, the festival this year will be held from 24th September to 27th September 2009. Each day has been exquisitely scheduled to offer you more than what it has been doing for all these years. Crabs, Lobsters, Mussels... the list is endless and very much mouth watering indeed. Renowned chefs from all over the Irish nation will gather here to cater to the food lovers and visitors and experimenters and critics... However, it is not just the seafood that will amaze you. The streets of Galway will also come alive with the street dancers and live bands - all in their colorful attires who will parade through the city in order to entertain you.

It has been a tradition, since the inception of this event that the very first oyster of the season is presented to the Mayor of the city and this year will be no exception. The Eyre Square is the place to be on the first day when hundreds of thousands of people will gather here to witness another major festival get kicked off. After the mayor of the city is presented with lip-smacking Oysters, also signifying the start of the festival, guests can then gorge on a whole selection of tastefully prepared seafood cuisines... And what less? One could also get first hand information on the various fish varieties out there on display from the experts who will entertain all your queries.

The Guinness Irish Oyster Opening Championship and the Guinness World Oyster Opening Championship are the two most looked forward to events across the 5 days of celebrations that will take place in Galway. The Mardi-Gras party and the numerous other local parties organized across the various pubs and restaurants of the city will also strive to keep you enthralled and entertained throughout your stay here. Food, wine, soulful music and dance... did anyone say one needed more?
