San Diego, CA (PressExposure) March 29, 2012 -- Scores of paranormal researchers and ghost hunting enthusiasts are expected to haunt San Diego harbor this fall.
The first annual Maritime Ghost Conference will be held onboard the historic steam ferry Berkeley on September 15. The conference, organized by the San Diego Ghost and Paranormal Group, celebrates numerous ships with a history of unexplained phenomena including San Diego's own famed Star of India, the world's oldest active sailing ship. Conference sessions will also cover related topics such as historic phantom ships, and maritime mysteries such as the fabled Marie Céleste, the merchant ship made famous when it was discovered in the Atlantic, absent of its crew, yet still on course in 1872.
"We wanted to host a paranormal conference here in San Diego. We were looking for a fresh angle, a type of conference that no one had ever been to before," explained David, head of SDGAP. "Realizing that we had a number of resources on the topic of maritime ghosts, we decided to let that be our focus. We know the public is very interested in haunted ships."
The conference will be held as a fundraiser for the Maritime Museum of San Diego, caretakers of the Star of India and steam ferry Berkeley. All proceeds from the conference will be donated directly to the Maritime Museum.
"This museum has been a wonderful venue for ghost investigations in the past, and this is our way of repaying the great experiences that we have had there over the years."
Well-known personalities from the field of paranormal research are donating their time for the fundraiser and will be on hand to give presentations, book signings, and to lead paranormal investigations onboard the Star of India, which has been featured on programs such as the SyFy channel's popular show Ghost Hunters and the Travel Channel's Ghost Adventures, as well as on the steam ferry Berkeley. According to SDGAP, "The Maritime Ghost Conference will have something to offer to serious paranormal researchers and the curious public. We are looking forward to sharing new evidence and personal encounters, never-before told, in an environment rich with maritime history."
