Goodyear, AZ (PressExposure) February 20, 2012 -- Dr. George Kukurin of Goodyear Arizona completed a nine month program of Advanced Practice ~ Chiropractic through the National University of Health Sciences. The post graduate educational program consists of medical Pharmacology and also Pharmacognosy which is the study of botanical and herbal treatment protocols that have mechanisms of action similar to prescriptions drugs. Because of the detailed study of the metabolism and mechanisms of action of standard medical prescriptions and various plant based, botanical and nutritional supplements, this program has allowed Dr. Kukurin to safely recommend natural substances that have scientifically validated and known biological effects.
According to Dr. Kukurin, "we now have a much better understanding of which natural therapies can be given to compliment a patient's prescription medications."
"Patients are bombarded with advertisements of all sorts of health food products. Some have studies to support them, for others the research just isn't their to justify their use."
"Some may be effective, but should not be recommended to a specific patient due to either their medical conditions or due to the current medications they are taking."
"Maybe even more importantly, we can advise our patients on negative herbal-medication interactions that may be harmful and steer them clear of potential problems."
"It is unfortunate", according to Dr. Kukurin, "that too many patients waste their hard earned money on alternative treatments that have little or no scientific research to support their use." Understanding the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of both common prescription drugs and their natural counterparts, which is what Pharmacognosy is all about, enables us to recommend natural substances that are most likely to help the patient based on available research."
Kukurin is also a Diplomat of the American Chiropractic Academy of Neurology. He utilizes Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Pharmacognosy to help his patient with neuropathy, spinal stenosis, fibromyalgia migraines and other painful conditions of the nervous system. "The addition of Pharmacognosy to our treatment protocols has already improved upon the excellent results our patients obtain," opined Kukurin.
