Health Insurance Issues on the Rise

Denver, CO (PressExposure) March 22, 2010 -- Health insurance has become a bloated problem in many parts of the country. The expense is a tremendous increase from about 10 years ago, and considering that income is not rising proportionally, this becomes a heavy burden for most Americans.

The problem is insurance companies have fixed expenses and operating costs, and the cost of covering for the doctors, hospitals, and host of other medical expenses is rising. This means that the insurance companies are having a hard time coping. It's not that they are making more money.

Other reasons for the problems plaguing health insurence is the fact that people are living longer and technology costs money. Thus, aside from longevity, every senior citizen will begin to experience a slow down or health issues. The cost of the treatment is not the same as it used to be when these senior citizens were still paying for health insurance.

Add to this the fact that we are experiencing high inflation and more economic woes. This means that there is a percentage of people who have stopped paying health insurance because it is something they can no longer afford.

The incidents of suits and legal cases filed against doctors have also driven up the costs. We sometimes forget that doctors are human beings and therefore prone to mistakes, yet they have to pay for their mistakes. In a way, it's hard to decide where the line divides what is an honest mistake and a careless mistake. Regardless, the result is still the same, everyone suffers from high cost of health insurance.

There are ways you can help the situation such as observing a healthier lifestyle. Quit smoking and drinking excessively. Avoiding fatty and fried food as well as having regular check ups. The early detection is always the best option for anyone. It helps lower costs not just for the patient but for the insurance industry.

Other ways to help the situation is by checking what tax breaks you can apply for for your medical bills. You can even consult a medical bill auditor if you are paying too much.

On the home front, try simplifying your life by using home health care. Avoid going to the emergency room for every pain or ache you feel. If you are not happy with your health care, you should realize that it is not a permanent situation, and you can always look for a better provider with better deals on insurance.

If there are free clinics in your neighborhood, use them to consult for minimal illnesses or conditions. If you have to go to a doctor, make sure you know how much he or she charges before you agree to an appointment. There is no shame in being practical.
