Croxley Green, United Kingdom (PressExposure) May 19, 2010 -- Howard's Way very low calorie diet (VLCD) has remodelled and expanded its weight maintenance product range while keeping costs per serving to just £2.
Obesity specialist and the founder of the Howard's Way VLCD, Penelope Howard, explained: "I have always been primarily concerned about 'what' any of us eat.
"Almost since I launched Howard's Way, successful dieters have asked us to produce a range of weight maintenance products that would eliminate the need for 'worry' - just as the 'total food replacement' (TFR) treatment involved in the Howard's Way VLCD programme did when they were in 'losing weight' mode.
"There are many products in the high street that all claim to fit the bill but, in my view with my strong beliefs about ongoing health combined with weight management, I could not endorse any of them. So, some time ago, I developed the 'Howard's Way Maintenance Bar' but these bars had their shortcomings.
"We've now improved these maintenance bars, reducing them to two thirds of the original bars' size - which, in turn, reduces both the number of calories per bar and the cost.
"In addition, we've added a range of nutritional, additive-free 'instant' meals in four flavours, and introduced 'chocolate' and 'mocha' wafers. All of these products contain just under 200 calories each," Penelope added.
"We're delighted to be offering a more comprehensive range of diet and 'snack' food that should meet all dieters' eventualities," she continued. "Moreover, with all our maintenance food priced at £2 per serving - a price which includes support by Howard's Way staff - we believe that this is an affordable way of maintaining a weight loss regime.
"Now that we have bars, meals and wafers, you can replace any meal with any of them and be consuming only 200 calories - or, if you eat any two, 400 calories. That should help you to keep your daily calorie intake down.
"Last Autumn we tried something new with our patients who needed to 'get a bit off in a hurry'," Penelope revealed.
"We made our 'Recovery Programme' a 'rolling' one. That was so well received that we are extending this offer until end of August - enabling more people to lose some weight at a time that is convenient for them.
"And the ongoing support that Howard's Way provides is still the same," added Penelope.
"Our commitment hasn't changed to getting your weight where you want it to be. You'll still have to toe the dieting line - but, with the rolling Recovery Programme, you can do it now."
Currently, some 400 people a year complete the Howard's Way weight loss programme and, since Howard's Way began in July 1997, over 2,000 of its patients have lost over three stones in weight each. During this time none of Howard's Way patients has become ill as a result of being on the programme.
Howard's Way currently has centres in Croxley Green, Hertfordshire; Stanmore; Luton & Dunstable, and Victoria, in London. It also operates a distance dieter and support service for those who live too far away from any of these centres.
